Avni was rescued by Peepal Farm in Dhantu, India after being separated from her troop.

The poor little monkey had been electrocuted and couldn’t keep up with them.

She was undergoing a significant amount of stress and couldn’t handle being in a cage while recovering.

But things started to turn around for Avni when she met a cat named Billo.

Billo started sitting next to Anvi’s cage and would visit her every day,

Eventually, Billo started sitting inside of Avni’s cage with her.

This really helped Avni to adjust. She calmed down a ton and was finally able to rest.

“Her relationship with Billo really turned everything around,” Joelleen co founder of Peepal Farm said.

It took a month for Avni to heal. But when she did, her true personality began to shine.

As Avni grew older and felt better, she became a lot more playful.

Since Billo is a cat, she isn’t interested in roughhousing.

But the dogs on the farm were. Peepal Farm rescues all kinds of stray animals.

Their philosophy is to “Live to do maximum good; live while causing minimum harm.”

She became very close with one of the dogs named Munnu.

Then came the day when Avni realized that she could ride Munnu.

“Avni was hanging out with the dogs in the back and she must have grabbed onto him. Munnu was so gentle he was just like, ‘OK,'” Joelleen said.

Joeleen said Avni may have been riding the dog because she found it to be comforting.

She was holding the dog as if she would hold her mother.

Monkeys are creatures that exist within a group called a troop and prefer family life.

Avni was holding on tight because she didn’t want to lose the new family that she had found.

Mannu was dumped as a puppy.

So, he also knew what it was like to not have a family too.

Avni and Mannu started to play together every single day. Whenever Mannu goes on walks, Anvi absolutely has to come along.

Except she doesn’t like to walk. She just rides on his back. Joelleen says that it’s quite the “spectacle.”

“If Munu didn’t go out, Avni wouldn’t go either. It was only with Munnu,” Joelleen said. “As soon as Munnu would stand up Avni would run over and take a flying leap and grab onto his back.

Joeleen says that the two are just hilarious together. Riding Munnu has provided a great way for Avni to get out and explore while still feeling safe and secure.

Baby monkeys will typically cling to their mothers for about a year.

Joeleen says she was overjoyed to see that Avni was able to find a mother figure and have a strong bond with Munnu. Anvi and Munnu’s story ended up going viral. A video about Avni’s story was viewed more than 7.7 million times on The Dodo’s YouTube page.
